Wanner Hydra Cell Pro
Wanner Hydra Cell Pro – An automotive manufacturer used arbor-mounted nylon brushes to remove carbon deposits from crankshafts after the parts were heat-treated and dipped in oil. This expensive process required continual CNC adjustments to compensate for brush wear. Furthermore, the brushes needed to be replaced frequently.
The OEM evaluated a radical new approach for fast removal of the carbon deposits by using high-pressure wash jets as a non-contact, non-intrusive way to clean the crankshafts. Piston pumps were evaluated, but they are prone to seal wear and would require the added expense of fine filtration to handle the carbon deposits. After extensive testing, the Wanner Hydra-Cell D15/G15 was selected to operate 24/7, with a new crankshaft arriving at the cleaning station every 55 seconds.
With its sealless design and check valve orientation, the D15/ G15 can handle abrasive particulates up to 500 microns in size, so there is no need for fine filtration and no maintenance or downtime because of seal wear. As a result, the two pumps installed have simplified the cleaning process and reduced operating costs. The OEM is now considering other applications to use Wanner Hydra-Cell Pro sealless pump technology.
