Hydra-Cell® Provides Accurate Metering for Oriented Strand Board
Oriented strand board (OSB) is an engineered wood product that shares many of the characteristics of plywood. It is used widely as a construction material and for industrial containers and furniture. A manufacturer of OSB needed a pump to
add adhesive resins to “bone dry” wood (0% moisture) with a metering accuracy of ± 0.6% or better and wood flow of approximately 30,000 lbs/hr (13,607 kg/hr).
A Hydra-Cell D10/G10 with a pressure relief valve and sight flow indicator back to a resin tank was installed on a skid system. A plant transfer pump feeds the resin tank. Phenolic formaldehyde or polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI) resins are heated in the tank and processed by the Hydra-Cell pump through diaphragm isolation valves, inlet strainers, a flow meter, a solenoid-operated full port ball valve, and a check valve.
With its seal-less design and materials of construction that can handle heated resin–and metering accuracy that exceeds the API 675 performance standard–the Hydra-Cell D10/G10 provides a critical element of a quality manufacturing operation.
